1. Does Dr. McReynolds offer primary care?
As a specialist in Osteopathic Manipulation and Spiritual-Medical Healing, Dr. McReynolds asks all patients who need medication management, periodic laboratory testing, drug treatment for acute illnesses, or other conventional therapies to continue with their current primary physician.  She will then provide complementary holistic therapy coordinated with that doctor.

2. Does Dr. McReynolds order x-rays or lab tests?
Dr. McReynolds will occasionally recommend certain limited lab tests or x-rays.   She will do this to rule out a serious condition requiring added conventional care.

3. Does Dr. McReynolds prescribe medication?
Yes, but only on rare occasions.  For conventional medical care, which normally includes prescription drugs, Dr. McReynolds advises that patients go to their conventional primary care doctor.   She chooses not to direct time away from her osteopathic treatments and spiritual-medical healings.

4. What is an office visit like?
An initial visit takes approximately 1 1/2-2 hours and is divided into 3 segments:

1) History .   Osteopaths look at the whole person and help patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that don't just fight illness, but prevent it too.   In addition to taking a medical history, other factors are explored:   diet, exercise, physical and emotional stress, trauma, environmental, and occupational influences.

2) Physical examination , includes both conventional (eyes, ears, heart, blood pressure, etc.) and Osteopathic structural exam (alignment, tenderness, movement, and flexibility)

3) Treatment with Osteopathic Manipulation.
If appropriate, time is also made available during this first visit on how to prevent illness and injury by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Follow up visits are 30 minutes long and focus on Osteopathic Manipulation treatment.   Other factors that can improve the patient's health that were not covered during previous visits are discussed.

This description is for "typical" visits.   Special health circumstances may necessitate adjustments to these regular proceedings.
